Sabine has twenty-three years of experience in leadership, education management, and curriculum development in Europe and China. A graduate of Germany’s prestigious Johann Wolfgang Goethe University, Sabine brings the academic discipline and rigour of her German education as well as her professional experience at international schools in Finland and China, two of the world’s leading educational systems.
After coming to China in 2007, Sabine served as the youngest-ever principal of the Early Childhood Centre for Beijing’s German Embassy School. Five years later, she became academic director for MIK, an international English kindergarten. Under Sabine’s leadership, MIK took its place among Beijing’s leading international schools. She then accepted the position of education consultant with Octave, Shanghai’s first holistic wellness center, and later became CEO of Huijia International Kindergartens in Beijing.
As life-long learning is one of her values, Sabine recently finished a Master's degree at the Self-Design Institute in North America in addition to receiving certification from the Multiple Intelligences Institute established by Howard Gardner of Harvard University. She is also the founder of the I.N.S.P.I.R.E.D.
approach, which combines traditional values and holistic philosophies with the latest in education science.
In co-founding WonderTree, Sabine creates a school for the future, where education is based on love and compassion, and combines the best holistic learning methods with Chinese values.
With a background in management and construction, John combines his business acumen with his natural love of learning to create a school that prepares children for whatever the future may bring. It is his belief that in the education business, children should come first, but in order for those children to be prepared for a 21st century world, they need language skills.
Born in Hong Kong, he found himself immersed in English at age six when his family moved to Canada. By 2002, he had relocated to China, eager to share his love of bilingual education, but after founding a Canadian high school in Taiyuan, he saw the difficulties teenagers have in learning a second language. After all, for even immersive language training to be truly effective, it needs to start early. This inspired him in 2004 to open Muffy’s, a Beijing-based international kindergarten that in under a decade grew from one room and one class to several locations, over a thousand students, and a thriving after-school program.
But John understands that language immersion means little unless you educate the whole child; this means teaching self-sufficiency and communication skills and using play-based learning to foster complete mental and physical development. And these celebrated holistic principles don't end with the child—it takes a community to raise a global citizen. Even with Muffy’s runaway success, the school never lost its feeling of family, and WonderTree is founded on the same principles. With our compassionate, visionary educators using our innovative I.N.S.P.I.R.E.D.
approach, the WonderTree community prepares children for success in an ever-changing world.
