For nearly forty years, Catherine E. (Kate) Smith has been singing and playing with children as a music educator in British Columbia, Canada. She introduced and taught an after-school programme called SongPlay at Coastal Sound Music Academy for children aged four to six. Using SongWorks and Singing English as her inspiration, Smith is exploring singing and playing with adults and children in non-traditional settings around the world, such as Canada’s indigenous immersion schools. In early 2016, she had the privilege of introducing newly arrived Syrian refugee women and children to the song games of Singing English, which aided them in learning the native language of their new home. She also mentors young music educators in SongWorks and Singing English principles, practice, and repertoire. In her spare time, Kate plays the ukulele at seniors' residences and enjoys riding her bike and being outdoors.
